Women’s Group Therapy

Ongoing Interpersonal Women’s Therapy Process Group
For Women 30 and Over
Fridays from 4 pm-5:15:pm

The cost is $65 per session and may be covered by your health insurance as an out-of-network group therapy session.

This group will meet virtually via a HIPPA compliant telehealth platform.

Our group is led by two seasoned psychotherapists. We focus on depression and anxiety related to health, work/career, relationship difficulties, divorce/break-ups, or other life transitions.

The core of process group therapy

A process therapy group is sort of a social laboratory in which honest interpersonal exploration vis-à-vis the other members is not only permitted but encouraged. Suppose people are conflicted in their ways of relating to others. In that case, a social situation that encourages honest personal exploration can provide a clear opportunity to learn many valuable things about themselves. We (as your group therapists) emphasize working on your relationships directly with other group members. This isn’t easy. Truthfully, it can be quite challenging. But it is crucial because if one can understand and work out one’s relationship with the other group members, there will likely be an enormous carryover to the outside world.

It’s important to understand that process groups are quite distinct from support groups. While a process group does offer support, its focus is on the process of therapy more than the content. For example, a support group might be organized around a specific issue such as loss or a particular medical issue. Another critical difference is that process groups provide an opportunity for learning about one’s problems in social relationships; it is not an assembly for meeting and making friends in the usual sense; if used in this manner, the group loses its therapeutic effectiveness. In other words, the therapy group teaches one how to develop intimate, long-term relationships, but it does not generally provide these relationships.

There is a free 20 – 30-minute intake required for the group. It’s also required that you’re in your own ongoing individual therapy. Please feel free to contact either of us to learn more and determine if this might be a good fit for you.

Hybrid office hours

As an update, please know I’m back in the office seeing people in person. But I still see many people online on my telehealth platform as well. You determine what’s best for you. Many people opt for online with the option to come into the office occasionally or vice versa. Just please let me know if you have any questions.
